Becoming Edith Oyster

Whenever Edith visited her gran as a child, she would tiptoe into her bedroom, and sink into the softness of her gran's high bed. Picking up a book on her bedside table, she got lost on the moors of "Lorna Doone" or in the bustling streets of "Virginia Woolf's" London. It was a place where she could feel the rush of emotions and immerse herself in the world of happily ever afters. Only later in life did she realise that her grandmother's influence had left an indelible mark on her soul, inspiring both her passion for romance and poetic nature. She carries her grandmother’s legacy with her through her middle name, Edith, given to her at birth.

Unexpected repetitions always pique Edith's curiosity and she can’t help wondering about their hidden significance. Cape Agulhas introduced her to the Black Oyster Catcher, a bird species that was once unknown to her. She felt a sense of significance when these birds appeared three times during the same weekend. Once on a walk. The second photographing the sunset on the beach, and lastly in the chalet's name. She noticed above the door was a wooden plaque etched with the words Black Oyster Catcher. Taking it as a sign, she adopted Oyster as her creative surname.

About Me

From a young age, Edith Oyster felt a deep desire to help others through the power of healing. Nursing became her passion, allowing her to find meaning in the physical, mental and spiritual realms of the human being. Over the next four decades, she discovered the complexities of life through pain, suffering, death, abuse, and mental illness. Poetry and storytelling became her refuge, a way to navigate through her emotions. Despite the human turmoil that features in her stories, she ends them on a positive note. Writing stories allows her to escape the harsh realities of life and create a world with a happier ending. In all of her stories, love is a common thread that ties the characters together, highlighting its universal nature beyond just romantic love. She draws inspiration from the unique individuals she’s met over the years, each character in her stories reflecting a piece of their personality or life story. Edith’s unconventional philosophy, grounded in nature, and influenced by different philosophers, and religions, shapes the way she lives her life and often reflects in her writing.
